Q&A with Dr. Moore
When did you first get interested in medicine?
My interest in medicine began as a young child when I used to take care of my sick dolls. Volunteering in both local and international hospitals as a college student solidified my decision to enter the medical field.
Why did you decide to become a pediatrician?
During medical school, I had the opportunity to work in an outpatient pediatric clinic – the close relationships with children and their families and the abundance of smiles made becoming a pediatrician an easy decision.
If you wouldn’t have become a pediatrician, what do you think you would be doing?
I would likely be a veterinarian. I adore animals, and similar to the field of Pediatrics, I think there is something wonderful about advocating for groups that often do not have a voice to advocate for themselves.
Is there a particular topic in children’s health that you are especially interested in? If so, why?
I am especially interested in obesity prevention and counseling as well as sports medicine. I participated in athletics from a young age and competed in track through college, so helping others to find happiness in a healthy, active lifestyle brings me great joy.
What is your favorite thing about being a pediatrician?
Besides getting to hand out stickers, I immensely enjoy connecting with patients and families and building lasting relationships with them. I love the challenge of helping to care for sick children, and I also enjoy providing preventative guidance to help keep kids healthy. Being, a pediatrician, to me, is all- around wonderful!
Are you involved in any particular community organizations that you feel passionate about?
We have recently moved back to Austin from Nashville, and I am looking forward to advocating in some form or another for Austin’s medically underserved children as well as possibly connecting with local youth sports programs, either in a coaching or medical capacity.
What are your goals as a pediatrician?
My goal as a pediatrician is to work in conjunction with families to provide compassionate, evidence- based care for children.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I can be found running on local trails, curled up with a good book, traveling to nearby and far-away places, sampling Austin’s latest food trailers, and most prominently, spending time with my husband, Alex, and rescue dog, Chloe.
